5 Books That Will Transform Your Healing Journey
I recently shared a video on YouTube about the five books that had a major impact on my own emotional healing journey. So I wanted to share them here, in the hope that they inspire you as much as they have inspired me.
Some people are readers. Some people prefer podcasts. Some people like to watch videos, but for me, I have always been a reader (which I guess is why I’ve always loved writing on this blog). I especially love to read the words of others who have lived such brave, inspiring, and wonderful lives.
So here are the top five books have been such powerful and supportive tools for me over the last several years where I have been diving into my own emotional wounds, my own trauma, understanding the role of my ego and getting to know my soul and its desires.
I hope these books can support you in a similar way, and that you take great pleasure in them as much as I have taken great joy in reading their words.
The first book to start with is by Louise Hay called You Can Heal Your Life.
When I was training to be a kinesiology practitioner, way back in 2018, I began to understand, through the training, that all physical symptoms have an emotional root cause.
At the time, this was an entirely new concept for me, and one that took me a while to wrap my head around. But it all made sense and I began to work on a deep level with my clients to help them understand the emotional root cause behind their symptoms.
And what I found was every symptom had an emotional attachment, and if you want to dive into this more deeply, then I highly recommend taking a read of something I wrote a while ago about where emotions are stored in the body.
In this powerful book, Louise Hay goes into depth into all the different symptoms and their possible emotional root causes. This book has given me so much understanding of myself and my body, especially because I have the 8-8 energy in my Soul Contract, which means that I can sometimes be a little bit disassociated and disconnected from my body and what it is trying to tell me.
If you also have the 5-5 energy in your Soul Contract, you could also be a little ungrounded and spend most of your time processing things on a mental level rather than feeling things in the body. If so, then this is a brilliant book for you to check out.
The second book that has been a spectacular gift for me is The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn. Florence was a metaphysician in the 1920s and while this book is only 95 pages long it’s jam packed with down-to-earth, no-bullshit, slightly old-fashioned wisdom.
I can’t begin to tell you how many times I've picked this up and read it over and over again. Some of the nuggets of wisdom she has shared with me have had a fundamental impact on my life. One in particular is this quote “one's ships come in over a calm sea” - she goes on to say that ‘as long as we resist a situation, we will have it with us. If we run away from it, it will run after us’. And what could be more true?
This is the process of non-resistance and letting go, which many brilliant authors speak about, but Florence says it in such a matter-of-fact way that you can spend hours pondering on the simple, short, yet powerful, words she writes.
She shares her understanding on the vibratory power of words and her knowledge of the metaphysics of our universe runs deep.
This book is all about the winning rules for success and happiness and I would say it is an absolutely essential read for anyone looking to come into full command of their life.
The third book that absolutely blew me away is Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers.
Susan Jeffers is an American author and this book is what I would call a classic self help book, but it is a classic for a reason. I have annotated this book so much (the pages are literally littered with notes) because there is so much wisdom to be shared.
If you have the 7-7 energy in your Soul Contract, which is about letting go of control, or perhaps the 4-4 energy, which is all about leaning into trust, then you will probably love this book, because this is all about how to overcome your fears and how to be decisive in making decisions.
She explains that often we can’t move forward in our life because there is a fear blocking us. And this book is all about understanding what that fear is and how to move through it. This is a theme that I absolutely love exploring with clients to help them overcome, as well as writing about my own experiences of how to overcome fear to move forwards in my life.
I’m not kidding when I say your life will change when you read this book.
The fourth book is Outrageous Openness, Letting the Divine Take the Lead by American author Tosha Silver.
This book is based on the principles of Aparigraha which means non grasping. In this book Tosha dives into these principles and shares her how reflections on how to let go and let the Divine take the lead. This is an incredibly easy book to digest because it's made up of small stories that Tosha has experienced in her life, helping to demonstrate that when you let go of control and let the Divine take the lead, everything works out for you.
Again, this is a perfect book for people who get stuck in the process of overthinking and over-analysing what to do next.
If you find it hard to let go of the past and move into the present of your life, where everything happens, then this is a wonderful book to help you open up your energy and allow you to move forwards in your life.
The last book is a gentle, loving book for those who struggle with self-confidence, self-esteem and self-worth. This book is On the Wings of Self Esteem by Dr. Louise Hart.
In this book Dr Hart shares the three stages of personal transformation; reaching in, reaching out and reaching high. She goes on to share that when we are born, we are young and vibrant with confidence from within.
And as we get older, we reverse metamorphosis and we go back into being a caterpillar due to lack of confidence. And in this book she’s teaching us how to become a butterfly once again. I have to say that I feel like this book is complete nourishment for the soul - it completely soothed and relaxed me, helping me to feel so much more at home within myself.
She explores, with love, compassion and wisdom, how to recover our self-esteem when we feel it’s been lost, and I have no doubt that after reading this you’ll feel more loving towards yourself, more compassionate and more connected.
So there you have the five books that have completely transformed my life and supported me on my emotional healing journey, helping me to me build trust, emotional resilience, confidence, fearlessness, and a greater understanding of myself, my ego, and my soul - I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
