Your A-Z Guide to the Labels That Show Up in Your Soul Contract

soul contract guide

While labels are never meant to define us, they can sometimes helpful for us to gain deeper insight into understanding ourselves, and others.

I’m always exploring ways to make the Soul Contract energies more relatable, so we can truly recognise the powerful forces shaping our lives beneath the surface - and see how, when we bring them into conscious awareness, we can begin to work with them.

Most of us go through life reacting to whatever life throws at us, not realising that our external environment is often just a reflection of our inner world of thoughts, emotions, programming and beliefs. When we begin to get to know ourselves, we can begin to observe our patterns and programming, and start to work with them, rather than letting them control us.

Knowing the energies in our Soul Contract is a way to see ourselves more clearly, like Astrology or Human Design, and to connect deeply with who we truly are - and this is the most empowering thing we can do for ourselves.

The hidden energies in each Soul Contract number

Each of the 22 Soul Contract numbers is a beautiful balance - like a seesaw: each number has a negative aspect and a positive aspect.

The negative aspects of the numbers are not there to make our lives harder, they are there for us to acknowledge, transmute and embody them, so we can come into the positive aspects. When we do that, we step into greater command of our lives, where we can begin to respond to the universe, rather than react.

The labels below, and the corresponding numbers, aren’t meant to define you, or bring up any judgement or shame about who you are (and if they do, check this post on shame out).

They are simply an honest reflection of how these common patterns can show up in the Soul Contract system. Some may resonate with your experience, and some may not - it all depends on where the numbers sit in your chart, what other numbers are present, and the unique journey of your life so far.

No one can tell you who you are, we are all deeply unique, with our own strengths, challenges, and lessons. Understanding these labels is just a gentle way to shine a light on the patterns and energies at play, so you can notice them, and work with them with greater compassion and consciousness.

The alphabet of labels in the Soul Contract system

Anxious: 5-5s and 8-8s

While we all suffer from anxiety from time to time, the core Soul Contract numbers associated with the heady energies of anxiety are often the 5-5s and 8-8s. The reason for this is that both of these energies tend to stay in the head, overthinking and overanalysing things, which leads to inner turmoil and anxiety. The way through this is to calm the mind and allow feelings, rather than thoughts, to lead the way. This is how the gentle 5-5s and 8-8s can find inner peace when their thoughts threaten to spiral out of control - it's all about grounding.

Burnt out: 6-6s, 12-3s and 15-6s

Burnout is often linked to Soul Contract numbers that carry a strong drive to create, expand, and find meaning, particularly the 6-6s, 12-3s and 15-6s. These energies can push themselves hard, either through an urgent desire to do more, or a constant searching for answers, which eventually leads to exhaustion and depletion. When disconnected from their inner truth, they may scatter their energy or feel frustrated that they can’t get everything done. The way through burnout for these numbers is to slow down and reconnect to the spiritual flow beneath productivity. When creativity and rest are in balance, these energies regain focus and vitality without forcing things and exhausting themselves.

Controlling: 7-7s and 16-7s

The label of controlling is often associated with the heart-healing energies of the 7-7s and 16-7s. For these numbers, control is not about dominance, but about staying safe when there is deep shame, fear, or difficulty trusting themselves and life. Hiding behind masks, managing environments, or trying to keep things predictable can feel like protection against being hurt or exposed. The healing journey here is to gently release control, soften the heart, and allow vulnerability to replace rigid self-protection. As trust grows, these energies integrate into a grounded, authentic presence that no longer needs to control to feel safe.

Distrustful: 4-4s and 13-4s

Distrust is often rooted in the Soul Contract energy of the 4-4s and 13-4s, where there can be a deep fear of not being supported by life or by God. This energy may hold tightly to what feels safe, hesitant to share or open, driven by a scarcity mindset and underlying belief that there isn’t enough or that support could be withdrawn. This can create difficulties in taking risks and trusting that they will be supported, which can leave these energies feeling really stuck and unable to move forwards. The journey for these numbers is to slowly release scarcity and fear by rebuilding their trust and reconnecting with the felt sense of unconditional support from Source. As trust is embodied, abundance and opportunities are all able to flow back in.

Escapist: 5-5s, 14-5s and 8-8s

Escapism is often linked to the 5-5s and 8-8s, particularly when the intensity of thoughts, emotions, or earthly life feels overwhelming. These energies may disconnect, drift, or avoid staying present as a way to cope with overstimulation or emotional discomfort. For the 5-5 and 14-5s, this can look like living in the mind and staying in a state of over-thinking or over-analysing. For the 8-8s, they can easily withdraw from feeling or commitment altogether in order to escape a situation or environment that isn’t comfortable for them. Like for the label of ‘anxiety’, the healing lies in grounding and allowing the body and emotions to anchor the soul back into the present moment.

Fearful: 7-7s

Fear is a familiar undercurrent for the 7-7s, often rooted in deep heart wounds and old karmic shame. This fear isn’t always obvious; it can often sit quietly beneath the veneer of calm and control or emotional withdrawal. At its core is a belief that it isn’t safe to be fully seen or to trust one’s own heart. This is why the 7-7 energy can feel so indecisive and why it can feel so hard to move forwards in life - it’s fear that holds them back. The path forward is slow, gentle heart healing where they allow vulnerability without forcing exposure. As this energy is often about a deeper emotional wound, this can take time. But, as fear dissolves, the 7-7 becomes a magnetic presence, connecting openly and leading through authenticity, attracting all that they need towards them.

Guarded: 8-8’s and 10-1s

This guarded energy shows up when fear of being hurt or misunderstood leads to keeping people or experiences at a distance. The wound often comes from feeling vulnerable and different, which makes opening up feel risky. Both the 8-8 and 10-1 are high frequency energies, which can make people with these energies feel like outsiders, or like they don’t belong on earth - home probably feels elsewhere, off-planet. The path is learning to trust yourself and others, gently stepping into connection while honoring your own boundaries. What once felt like emotional walls keeping people out can then transform into thoughtful discernment, where you can let your guard down and allow beautiful and real relationships to flourish.

Hot-headed: 6-6s

Hot-headedness often shows up in the 6-6 energy when inner tension, pressure, or frustration builds beneath a desire for connect and create. And no wonder, this energy is all about the Taurus energy of the bull. This energy can feel impatient with themselves or others when things don’t go according to plan, and the heat rises as a natural response to misalignment. The key is to notice the trigger without reacting, allowing the body and emotions to release rather than allowing the anger and frustration to erupt outwards. When the 6-6s learn to channel their energy creatively, the fire transforms into focus, inspiration, and constructive action. What once felt like anger or agitation becomes a grounded, aligned force that serves both self and others.

Impulsive: 2-2s and 11-2s

Impulsivity is commonly seen in the early expression of the 2-2s and 11-2s, where hypersensitivity and emotional reactivity can override sensible decision-making, leading to so-called mistakes. These energies may act quickly in response to feelings, later questioning their choices or repeating familiar patterns. This can create cycles of regret or self-criticism, looking back at past mistakes instead of focusing on the wisdom they’re learning. The learning curve is to allow more space to pause and reflect, and allow this emotional wisdom to mature before acting. As they come into balance this impulsivity gives way to thoughtful, emotionally resilient responses, and this is when the 2-2s and 11-2s step into their power.

Judgemental: 10-1s and 16-7s

Judgement is most often linked to the high spiritual standards carried by the 10-1s and, at times, the 16-7s. These energies hold strong ideals and a deep connection to spiritual truth, which can turn inward as harsh self-criticism or outward as judgement of others when life feels misaligned. Perfectionism and frustration can arise when reality, or people, don’t match these inner expectations. The invitation for both these energies is to soften rigid inner standards and release judgement as a defence against disappointment or shame. When compassion comes in, replacing criticism, these numbers can discover a wonderful mastery of themselves and an even greater expression of spiritual integrity.

Know-it-all: 22-4s

No one likes to be a know-it-all, but this energy can often appear in 22-4s when spiritual authority or mastery isn’t fully integrated. These souls may come across as overly certain, wanting others to align with their perspective or dismissing what feels less evolved - a bit like spiritual superiority. The energy of 22-4 has the huge potential to come into alignment of Self, Source and Soul in this lifetime, but there are lessons of humility that need to be learned along the way. The journey is to soften and let that spiritual insight flow without attachment to being “right.” As they deepen into humility and understanding of the interconnectedness of all things, this energy transforms into a beautiful understanding of the mastery within, that invites, rather than imposes.

Loner: 6-6s and 8-8s

Loner energy shows up when stepping back from others feels necessary to focus, create, or protect yourself. 6-6s often retreat to get work done or perfect their projects, which can seem like a hyper-focus, while 8-8s may pull away to avoid emotional overwhelm or tense social situations. The wound for the 8-8s is disconnection - feeling separate from people or like you don’t fully belong - and for 6-6s it’s about pulling away from people in order to focus, but the path is learning to balance alone time with being present in the world. What once felt like isolation can become intentional space for rest, creativity, and meaningful connection, where you can contribute without losing yourself in others, or your energy.

Martyr: 3-3s and 21-3s

The martyr pattern often emerges in the 3-3s and 21-3s, where unworthiness and hardship intertwine. These energies may blame themselves or believe they must suffer or work harder than others to deserve love or recognition. Life can feel heavy, as though challenges are personal punishments rather than soul lessons. The healing journey is to let go of the ego’s need to suffer, release self-blame and recognise that difficulty does not equal failure. Because the energy of 3 is a master number, it can feel really intense to have this number in your chart, but when we bring in compassion to replace the heavy feeling of self-sacrifice and the martyr energy of ‘poor me’, strength, creative expression and self-worth can be restored.

Needy: 11-2s

Needy energy often shows up in 11-2s when emotional support or guidance feels scarce, leaving them to seek reassurance and support externally. This can create a cycle of dependency, as they question their own ability to navigate life’s complexities, where they may feel like they can’t do it on their own. The learning curve is to trust their inner structure and unique way of doing things. As self-reliance grows, the neediness softens, and is replaced by a quiet confidence and emotional resilience that allows them to build and create exactly what they need to become a stable, internal source of support themselves, and others.

Overgiver: 13-4s

Over-giving is strongly linked to the nurturing, maternal energy of the 13-4s. These souls are deeply loving and service-oriented, but may give beyond their limits as a way to receive. The 4 energy is all about the balance of giving and receiving, which can often become skewed when we give in order to feel worthy - meaning that receiving can feel really hard. Over time, constant over-giving can lead to resentment or emotional depletion, so the lesson here is to soften into the receptivity of the feminine without self-abandonment, allowing giving to come from fullness rather than obligation, which then opens the portal to be able to receive. As the balance of giving and receiving is restored, love and generosity becomes sustainable and deeply nourishing for both self and others.

Procrastinator: 6-6s and 18-9s

Procrastination is often associated with the 6-6s and 18-9s. Both of these energies get stuck, where they are unable to finish things, but due to slightly different reasons. The 18-9 energy can get stuck in the past, where they are still stuck judging and criticising themselves for past actions, leading to indecisiveness and an inability to know what to start, and what to finish. With the 6-6s, these are very creative energies that want to do as much as they can, which can lead to them scattering their energies, spinning too may plates, and unable to finish what they started. As a result, avoidance can become a coping strategy. The way through is to let go of the past, reconnect with spiritual alignment, take a decisive action and commit to one thing at a time.

Quitter: 18-9s

A little like the label of ‘procrastinator’ above, the quitting energy shows up when overwhelm, indecision, or self-doubt leads to abandoning projects, plans, or commitments before they’re finished. The 9 energy in the 18-9 is incredibly powerful and spiritually connected, but as the 9 is also about disempowerment. This energy needs to overcome their fear of resistance of their power, in order to fully utilise their talents and abilities. While quitting can seem the easier option for this energy, in order to avoid feeling the pain of making mistakes, the path for this energy is about learning to trust your inner guidance and completely surrender as connect to your intuitive channel and well of power within you.

Rigid: 6-6s and 20-2s

Rigidity can show up for the 6-6s and 20-2s - almost like wearing blinders that stop these energies from seeing other ways of doing things - they can really lock up and have a very blinkered vision of life and of themselves. These energies may cling to structure, plans, or beliefs as a way to manage fear or inner tension. Especially for the 20-2 energy which may have been raised in a very rigid or structured way of life, such as religion or deep cultural conditioning that leaves little room for self-expression or freedom of thought. While this can create temporary stability, it often blocks creativity and flow. The invitation for these energies is to loosen resistance, take those blinkers off, and allow movement - emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. When there’s more flexibility, these numbers rediscover ease, creativity, and freedom.

Struggling: 21-3s

Struggling energy often shows up in 21-3s when life feels like a long, uphill path, full of repeated challenges or heavy obstacles. This can create a sense of being blocked or weighed down, questioning why things feel so hard or maybe whether they’re being punished for a past life, or that they’re somehow deserving of this great karmic challenge. The journey with this powerful energy is to channel persistence and inner strength, learning that every hardship is shaping endurance and wisdom. As they embrace their resilience, what once felt like struggle transforms into quiet mastery and the ability to navigate life’s challenges with complete power, confidence and grace.

Timid: 3-3s and 17-8s

Timid energy often shows up in 3-3s and 17-8s when shyness or self-doubt keeps their voice and creativity tucked away. The underlying wound is a persistent sense of unworthiness, where the ego is whispering that they they’re not worthy to be seen or don’t deserve to let themselves or their voices shine. This can be through soul suppression in childhood for the 17-8, or the inner wound of self-worth of the 3-3. The journey for these energies is to step gently into self-expression, claiming space and sharing their inner wisdom. Both of these numbers are about communication, and especially for the 17-8 this is all about sharing your voice and really expressing yourself. As confidence and self-worth grow, timidity is replaced by a stronger voice and greater creative courage.

Unworthy: 12-3s and 13-4s

Unworthy energy often shows up in 12-3s and 13-4s when self-doubt and comparison make it hard to feel deserving of love or recognition. For the 12-3 energy, this shows up in a busyness and inability to slow down and feel what’s driving them to do more, more, more. For the 13-4, like the label of ‘over-giving’, this can show up as over-giving to others in order to avoid feeling the emotional heaviness that comes with learning to receive. While both of these energies can carry this feelings of unworthiness, they are both here to come into deep self-acceptance and, eventually, even greater self-love, where they feel worthy to receive, and, ultimately, worthy to share who they are so they can radiate themselves and all that they are out into the world.

Victim: 9-9s and 21-3s

Feeling victimised is often tied to the powerful yet wounded energies of the 9-9s and 21-3s. This can stem from early abuse, neglect, or repeated hardship that created a sense of powerlessness. The narrative may quietly ask, “Why did this happen to me?” or “Why is life so hard?”. The soul’s work here is not to deny the pain, but to reclaim authority and strength with integrity. However, the path to integrity is often about learning to use power with responsibility. As this sense power is restored, the identity of being a victim in their life dissolves.

Worrier: 5-5s and 8-8s

Like the label of ‘anxiety’ and ‘escapist’ the worrier energy often shows up in 5-5s and 8-8s when the mind dominates over the body and heart, spinning through “what ifs” and worst-case scenarios. The reason they’re also mentioned so much in this guide is because the 5-5 is my physical karma, and the 8-8 is my spiritual karma, so both of these energies feature very intensely in my life! The wound for both energies is a tendency to overthink or anticipate problems, creating tension and worry that can make them feel out of control in life. The journey is to ground into the body and allow feelings, rather than thoughts, to guide them forwards.

E(x)cessive: 12-3s and 14-5

There were no words I could come up with for this letter so here’s the compromise. Excessive energy shows up when the mind, heart, or actions go beyond healthy limits, creating overwhelm, intensity and busyness, and the numbers most frequently associated with this are the 12-3s and 14-5s. Both of these energies can be a little ungrounded and fast-paced, leading to them doing things excessively. The wound often comes from a drive to do more, achieve more, or think through every possibility, leaving them scattered or burnt out. The only thing both of these energies need is to slow down, and once they do this, the excessiveness balances out into a more sustainable energy.

Yearner: 15-6s and 12-3s

Again, this letter was a little hard to find something for, but yearning is what I came up with, and this is all to do with the deep inner restlessness or searching that leaves a sense of incompleteness or unfulfillment. This is connected to the seeking and searching energy of the 15-6 energy, which can often go round and round in circles looking for answers. It is also connected to the 12-3s which have an inner drive from the soul to create, expand and grow. Both of these energies have the wounds of subtle dissatisfaction, often tied to not feeling settled, accomplished, or aligned. The path is turning inward and recognising that answers already reside within, and that seeking only leads to exhaustion. The more they turn inwards, the deeper that fulfilment can mature and bloom.

Zoned-out: 5-5s

Zoned-out energy shows up when the mind drifts into ideas, imagination, or inner landscapes and it’s the 5-5s, once again - surprise surprise, that often get lost in their thoughts. They are big dreamers, highly creative and incredibly connected to the astral plane of imagination. Perhaps as children they had no-so-imaginary friends, or played out wonderful fantasies where they could easily connect to their imaginary worlds. While they are very spiritual energies, their challenge is to come out of the mind and into reality - keeping their connection to Spirit but also keeping their feet on the ground - so that they can actually take tangible action to turn their brilliant ideas into reality.
