A Guide to the Deeper Lessons in Each Soul Contract Number
I love to write about the Soul Contract energies, especially because we’re all looking for deeper meaning and understanding in our lives and who we are.
The Soul Contract acts like a map, based on the sound of your birth name, sharing a clear layout of the soul’s journey - what it’s here to understand, how to overcome its challenges and how to reach the goals in this lifetime. It gives perspective, validation and clarity on who you are, as well as the map of how to navigate though the challenges of your own unique energies.
If you haven’t seen your chart, here’s the link to check it out for free. Or if you have no idea what your chart even means, I recommend watching this short explanation here!
And as you read on below, you may not resonate with some numbers that you have in your chart, and there’s a reason for this. First of all, the information laid out here isn’t live, meaning that it doesn’t hold the same transmission as a live and interactive reading does, which is worth bearing in mind.
Secondly, the energies are a little more complex and very personal to each person who has them in their chart — a bit like how perfume smells different on one person’s skin versus another’s.
Thirdly, the numbers don’t work in isolation - the energies in your chart are always weaving, interacting and playing with each other (this is a great example of my favourite number dynamics!), and so to really understand your Soul Contract I always recommend a live reading, if you feel called to it, so you can relate the energies to your own unique life experiences and see how they are interacting for you.
Each number has a delicate push and pull dynamic, that is playful and challenging at the same time, which is what I wanted to share here, and I hope it brings some insight and clarity to your journey. I’ve written many blog posts about the Soul Contract (which you can explore on my blog here) otherwise dive in below!
1 creates a powerful push-pull dynamic where immense spiritual power and responsibility feel both uplifting and, at times, deeply overwhelming. It’s like being held in a firm, protective embrace, offering profound unity with the Divine, but also presenting a challenge: to choose whether to lean into this transformative energy or resist it, possibly misuse it or fall into complete spiritual avoidance.
The weight of 1’s energy demands stability and groundedness before it can truly be of service to the world. It’s a path of learning how to hold great power gently, balancing confidence with humility, and recognizing that true strength often lies in steady presence rather than force.
2 moves constantly between natural impulsivity and hypersensitivity on one side, and a longing for balance, stability, and emotional resilience on the other. This dynamic feels like a tightly wound spring, sometimes compressed under waves of emotional sensitivity, other times opening with surprising clarity and perspective.
The 2 is called to learn how to navigate deep feeling while discovering the ability to see beyond immediate reactions. The real growth comes from transforming reactive impulses into grounded wisdom and gentle, clear responses. It’s about honoring vulnerability without being consumed by it, finding safety within the storm of feelings.
3 holds the tension between retreating into the safety of a rich inner world and the courageous act of expressing those deep feelings outwardly. The 3 often hides in a protective shell, shaped by feelings of unworthiness or the struggle to be truly seen and heard. Yet beneath that quiet shell there is deep soul knowledge and a heartfelt desire to teach, inspire, and share wisdom.
The journey for the 3 is to gently move through self-doubt and shyness, stepping more fully into their natural voice and creative power. When they do, their authentic self-expression becomes a beacon that lights the way for others.
4 carries a profound yearning to trust and share the abundant flow of life, while simultaneously wrestling with fears of losing security and feeling unworthy of being in this flow of abundance. This tension can lead to holding on tightly, mistrusting the natural ebb and flow.
Deep insecurities can cause the 4 to hesitate in sharing what they have, worried that nothing more will come. Yet their soul’s true purpose is to give generously and grow through trust. Their path is about shifting from scarcity and fear toward a grounded faith that life supports their growth and gifts.
5 pulses with the energy of raw potential, intuition, and creative spark. They are here to speak truth and bring abstract ideas into the tangible world. Yet this openness can sometimes feel unsteady, leading to overwhelm, feeling scattered and getting stuck in the mental body.
The 5’s challenge is to root their visions firmly in reality by embracing self-acceptance and confidently taking up space. This includes becoming more assertive and clear on who they are so they can move from hesitation to embodying the powerful, visionary teachers and truth-tellers they’re meant to be.
6 is a vessel for focused creation, able to take a small spark of inspiration and shape it into something real and meaningful. When aligned, they bring beauty, light, and order into the world. But when disconnected from their inner truth, they may scatter energy, become distracted, or feel stuck in frustration.
Sometimes, 6s seek control or certainty before taking action, creating resistance that blocks their flow. Their path is about surrendering rigid expectations and opening fully to intuitive creativity. When they do, their grounded presence becomes a powerful channel for manifestation, balancing patience with inspired momentum.
7 holds a magnetic power to bring people together and spark transformation by working from the heart. Yet beneath this warmth can lie deep fears of being truly seen, which may cause the 7 to hide behind masks or try to control their environment for safety. This protective impulse keeps their authentic self at a distance.
The healing journey is to gently emerge from hiding, accept all parts of themselves, connect with others and communicate openly from a place of vulnerability and love. In doing so, the 7 becomes a magnetic catalyst for others, and someone whose genuine presence draws others in and inspires their own transformation.
8 carries a deep invitation to ground into the body, community, and emotional truth. Yet the pull to escape, avoid commitment, or disconnect from feeling can be strong, sometimes making 8s feel like they are trapped in earthly life. This number asks for a courageous embrace of the full human experience, including its messiness and emotional chaos.
When grounded, 8s become deeply intuitive nurturers, channeling clairvoyant insight into everyday moments and creating a sense of belonging for themselves and those around them. Their strength is in anchoring spiritual wisdom in society and emotionally connecting with those around them.
9 holds vast spiritual and creative power that can heal, inspire, and uplift all who come near. But such power can feel daunting or frightening, especially when early wounds taught fear or mistrust of one’s own gifts, sometimes from misuse of power experienced in childhood.
The journey of 9 is a profound process of remembering and reclaiming their true identity, choosing to wield their power with love and integrity. When fully surrendered, 9s become potent channels of divine wisdom, transforming lives simply by embodying their authentic selves with gentle authority.
10 embodies the steady, disciplined manifestation of Spirit into the physical world. Deeply connected to Source, they carry profound spiritual gifts but often face internal challenges, high expectations, self-criticism, and a sense of isolation due to their unique nature.
Their path involves learning to balance the intangible power they hold with humble service, finding harmony between their inner gifts and the outer world. When they move beyond self-judgment and cultivate patience with themselves, 10s step into mastery, quietly powerful, grounded, and deeply connected to both Source and humanity.
11 holds a potent push-pull dynamic: the tension between holding on tightly and needing to let go, absorbing everything around them while craving the space to build their own structure. Some things come easily for 11s, while others feel hard, reflecting the tension between dependence on others and the deep truth that everything they need already lies within.
Their challenge is to navigate the overwhelming flood of ideas, emotions, and external influences by creating a stable, personal foundation of core values. In doing so, they honor both their inner wisdom and their outer reality, gradually stepping into their independence.
12 carries the tension between absorbing love and knowledge and the impulse to expand and express it. There’s a strong yearning to grow and share, yet internal doubts and limitations often hold them back. This creates a push-pull between openness and restriction, sometimes manifesting as imbalance between work, play, and rest.
12s often wrestle with self-worth and feeling stretched too thin so their key is to create a graceful flow between expansion and restraint, finding a balance that supports their emotional, spiritual, and creative expression without burning out.
13 represents deep, still waters of feminine love and wisdom. There’s a gentle but powerful pull to nurture and nourish others, alongside a protective resistance to vulnerability. Often, 13s carry a slightly tough exterior guarding a heart that’s been hurt, especially in relation to maternal or feminine energies.
The challenge is to soften this shell and embrace the balance between strength and loving openness. True maternal wisdom arises as they dive deeply into their emotional depths and then extend their love and insight to support others with the tenderness and grounded power of the Divine Feminine.
14 reflects deep soul truths and hidden aspects of self, often revealed through intense and transformative relationships. This journey can feel passionate and consuming, with the risk of losing oneself in others’ energies. 14s may struggle to distinguish their own truth from reflections or projections, leading to emotional burnout or confusion.
Their path invites pauses and moments of stillness to feel and discern who they truly are, separate from external mirrors. By reclaiming their boundaries and slowing down, 14s discover an authentic self that no longer depends on others to define them.
15 embodies a dynamic inner journey between outward searching and turning inward toward the divine within. The 15 often experiences restlessness, exploring many paths and ideas in search of meaning outside themselves. At the same time, there’s a deep, steady pull inward to awaken the sacred presence within.
The struggle lies in moving from scattered chasing of external answers to embracing a quiet, grounded knowing. Their growth is about shifting from unconscious drifting to conscious alignment with their true spiritual path, learning to trust the wisdom that already lives inside.
16 reveals the tension between lofty spiritual ideals and the slow, sometimes difficult work of grounding those energies into physical reality. There’s a push from spirit to express higher truths and share insights, balanced by a pull from the earth plane demanding patience, integration, and time. 16s often wrestle with releasing old, dense patterns of anger, resistance, or frustration, that block the natural flow of their light.
The journey is a delicate dance: allowing spirit’s lightness to meet the earth’s weight, creating a steady flow of inspired expression in everyday life.
17 moves between the suppression of voice and a deep soul urge to speak out, reclaiming personal power. This tension shows as a struggle between remaining small, often rooted in old conditioning, fear, or authority, and stepping into dominion by sharing truth clearly and confidently.
Many 17s carry wounds from early experiences of silencing or unworthiness. Their path is to break free from these constraints and become authentic communicators and wise teachers. In doing so, they reclaim their voice and become beacons of higher truth for others to follow.
18 embodies a profound inner struggle between indecision, self-sacrifice, and procrastination, and the soul’s call to fully commit and complete what was started. There’s a deep pull to serve, lead, and teach with wisdom, yet also a tendency to doubt oneself, give power away, or abandon projects midstream due to self-sabotage, indecision and unworthiness.
The core lesson is about stepping into full responsibility, choosing with clarity and courage to follow one’s truth and spiritual path. When 18s embrace commitment, they channel wisdom and strength, completing their missions, which can often be humanitarian in nature, with grace and purpose.
19 carries a powerful duality: the desire to serve humanity by grounding spiritual energy into the world, alongside karmic patterns of self-judgment, guilt, or misusing power. They feel called to create safe spaces for growth and awakening, where they hold space for others to understand themselves, but may be blocked by emotional heaviness or feelings of unworthiness.
The journey toward mastery involves learning to lighten up, embracing humor, humility, and intuition. When 19s allow themselves to laugh and release rigidity, they transform into wise, gentle leaders who help others rise with ease and joy.
20 is like a pendulum swinging between restless seeking and deep internal conflict. There’s a drive to explore new experiences, truths, and directions both spiritually and physically. Yet this constant motion can lead to mood swings, inner battles, and tension between rigidity and rebellion.
The true growth for 20 is learning to move from resistance toward fluidity, embracing creativity, change, and expansive exploration with trust. When the soul chooses peace over tension, the pendulum slows, and inner freedom emerges from what once felt like inner war.
21 carries immense inner strength and endurance, often forged through walking difficult, seemingly long and hard paths. There’s a push toward spiritual greatness and service, paired with the heavy weight of blocked creativity, suppressed emotions, or past wounds, often from parental or societal expectations. Life for 21 can feel like slogging through resistance until breakthrough comes.
This soul often feels like they’re doing life the long, hard way, battling internal inertia or anger where they struggle to slug through the hard stuff. But through channeling their anger and focusing on their obstacles, they can ultimately rise from hardship with unshakable strength and clarity.
22 holds a powerful push-pull dynamic between deep inner disconnection and divine wholeness. On one side, it can manifest as intense self-rejection, judgment, or obsession with external beauty, which reflects the denial of the soul’s innate worth and spiritual power, which can create inner torment and emotional struggle.
On the other side lies the potential for full remembrance of one’s divine nature and a return to inner completeness, where all parts of the self are integrated in service to a higher purpose. The tension between these poles drives a journey from self-denial to self-acceptance, from fragmentation to unity, and ultimately, from separation to Source.
