Welcome to the second part of my soul contract series. Last week, I shared about the power numbers in the Soul Contract system (and if you missed it, you can check it out here) and today we’re diving into another one of my favourite topics: the boundary numbers.

Boundaries are such a big theme in Soul Contract readings, and in life. I’ve personally struggled with them a lot, and I know I’m not the only one. Many of the people I read for have these particular boundary energies showing up strongly in their charts.
The two numbers most connected to boundaries are 5 and 8 - and yes, I have both sitting in karmic positions in my own chart, so I know these lessons inside out!
Why Boundaries Are Hard in Soul Contract Numbers
Boundaries aren’t physical things we can shut down or close off, they’re emotional and energetic. It’s not as simple as turning off a laptop or walking away from a conversation, because our minds often keep running.
Both 5s and 8s are prone to this. Fives are big overthinkers, while eights tend to analyse things in detail. That makes boundaries tricky, because the mind doesn’t switch off easily. Both of these energies need grounding, including time in nature, clear energetic space, and consistent self-care, to stay balanced and avoid picking up too much from others.
Soul Contract Number 5 – Learning to Assert Yourself
The five is deeply intuitive and imaginative, often dreaming of how things could be. But part of their soul path is about moving out of the abstract and into grounded action.
If you have a five in a karmic position (karma, goals, or soul destiny) you may have found yourself surrounded by dominant personalities, especially in childhood. These experiences push fives to find their voice and assert themselves, even when it feels scary.
The challenge for fives is to set clear boundaries by speaking up and saying, “No, that’s not okay” or “I didn’t agree to that”. Their lesson is to become tangible and real in this physical world, making choices, taking action, and using their voice instead of staying only in thought or imagination.
Soul Contract Number 8 – Sensitive Empaths and Emotional Boundaries
Eights are some of the most sensitive and empathetic energies in the system.
They often feel like sponges, picking up on the emotions of those around them. From an early age, they may have learned to “fix” or “smooth over” the feelings of parents or family members, believing that keeping others calm was the only way to stay safe.
This comes from a caring place, but it isn’t their job. Eights are not here to heal, save, or emotionally regulate others. Instead, they’re here to learn the powerful phrase: “That’s your stuff, not mine.”
The lesson of the eight is twofold:
With others it’s about learning to put up healthy boundaries and stop carrying other people’s emotional baggage.
With themselves it’s about learning to break down internal walls and connect deeply with their own emotions.
When eights get this balance right, they can remain open-hearted and compassionate without losing themselves in other people’s struggles.
Final Thoughts on Boundary Numbers
Boundaries are one of the biggest soul lessons for both fives and eights. Fives are here to understand how to step out of their heads and take grounded action, while eights are here to learn to separate what belongs to others from what belongs to them.
