Five Things Your Soul Contract Can (and Can’t) Tell You About Your Life

What secrets are hidden in our Soul Contract?

We’re all seeking answers for why we’re here and what we’re here to do.

It’s the natural curiosity of the human spirit to enquire and understand the meaning of our lives. As part of our spiritual awakening, both on an individual level and on a collective level, we are looking for the truth.

Many of us who are seeking this truth stumble upon the Soul Contract reading work because it’s our Soul Contracts that hold so many of those answers for us.

Our Soul Contract can give us answers to our deepest questions on many different levels. On a physical level, we can gain an understanding of why certain things have happened to us in our life. On an emotional level, we can start to understand our unconscious patterns and behaviour with more clarity and compassion.

And on a spiritual level, we can begin to awaken to our soul’s voice inside of us that is longing to be heard.

We are all sparks of the Divine/God/Source, here on Earth to play the Game of Separation from Spirit where we operate on a lower level of consciousness. As with all things in the Universe, we are here to create, expand and evolve, and one of the vehicles through which we do that is through our Soul Contract.

Our Soul Contract contains the blueprint for our own individual evolution back to the truth of who we are, and the reality we’re living in. It is our path back to love.

Our Soul Contract helps us wake up to our true nature

Our lives in the 3rd dimension mean that we are all still waking up and reconnecting to Source – this is the path of spiritual awakening (literally awakening to our true nature as sparks of God). And one of the ways we are blocked from Source is through our ego-mind, which seeks to control, limit and block us.

We don’t need to hate or attack the ego-mind; we just need to recognise how it operates and why it is playing this role. When we realise that it’s only here to try and keep us in separation, we can start to recognise how it plays us, which is usually through the emotion of fear.

Only then can we begin to tune down its voice so we can hear the murmurings of our soul underneath.

When we’re seeking answers for why we’re here and what we’re here to do, we just need to recognise whether it’s the voice of our ego-mind seeking safety or whether it’s the voice of our soul driving expansion – and how best we can give answers to both parts of us that are wanting answers and a way forward.

So, let’s dive into the most common questions we all have about our Soul Contract, which are:

Can my Soul Contract tell me why I struggle with certain patterns or challenges?

Yes, our Soul Contract reveals the hidden patterns operating under the surface that are keeping us trapped in limiting cycles or recurring patterns that feel so challenging in our lives.

Each number in the Soul Contract system carries a frequency, and this is the frequency that is creating our reality in every given moment. Each number contains a balance of positive and negative qualities, and we’re here to move out of the negative and into the positive, so we can start emitting that frequency out into the world.

However, if we don’t know what energies are in our Soul Contract, then we’re operating in the dark. When we know why we’ve been struggling with certain patterns or challenges, we can start to do something about it.

Having awareness is always the first step, and then we need to take action. This is what a Soul Contract reading equips you with – the self-awareness of what patterns are running, how they’re showing up in your life, and how you can start moving through them.

Bringing feeling-consciousness to the patterns is an essential part of this work, which is why having healing sessions to break down the programming that stems from our Soul Contract can be the quickest way to start disrupting the patterns and allowing the positive frequencies of the number to start coming through.

Can my Soul Contract tell me about past lives or karma?

This is a really interesting question and one that is a little tricky to answer.

Our Soul Contract doesn’t show us what past lives we’ve lived; it only shows us the energies set in place by the soul in this incarnation. However, it may give hints, depending on the karmic numbers in the chart, as to what may have happened in other incarnations.

I don’t tend to go into this in my readings because the focus is always about this lifetime in the present moment, as this is the one that matters. Time isn’t linear and we incarnate many times, across many dimensions, universes and realities, so the only moment that matters is this one right now.

This is the only power we have to create positive change in our lives, and focusing too heavily on past lives takes our energy and attention away from that.

At the same time, we are all here to break free from the wheel of karma. I’ve had many clients who have experienced real hardship, struggle and trauma in their lives, and they somehow believe that they must be to blame for it – for being bad in a past life.

The thing is, we’ve all been bad in a past life, and not just once but multiple times! We have all played the roles of perpetrator (the dark) as well as the roles of the healer (the light). We are not living in this lifetime to pay for the sins of a past lifetime that we aren’t even conscious of.

If we live in the shadow of past lives, we are taking ourselves away from the power of the Now moment. You can’t change past lives, but you can effect change in this current lifetime – and that is a wonderful thing.

While we have karmic energies in our Soul Contract, these are the challenges for your soul to experience in this lifetime in order to grow, evolve and ascend. We are all on a journey of consciousness, and our karma is our doorway to our potential.

It is not to be feared; it is to be embraced. The sooner we lean into it, the more we can transform it.

Can my Soul Contract tell me if I’m on the right path?

The answer to this question is both yes and no.

We have an infinite number of possible pathways in our life. We have the direction our soul wants to go, and we also have our free will that comes from the conscious personality (which is us) that can choose whether to engage with the energies in the Soul Contract or not.

As I mentioned just now, we are here to lean into the challenges in our lives, instead of taking the easier path, which is to avoid them. There is infinite potential and possibility in our Soul Contract, yet there are definitely easy ways for us to see if we’re following the flow of the soul or not.

I don’t believe in there being a ‘right path’ or a ‘wrong path’, but there is definitely a path that is more aligned with the soul, and a path that is more aligned with the ego–mind.

The soul is naturally creative and expansive, whereas the ego-mind is naturally fearful and limited, so we can always tune into our lives in each moment and feel into what inner force is driving us.

In a reading between a practitioner and client, we’re always seeking to understand where you are progressing through each number in your Soul Contract. If you’re still stuck in the negative aspects of a number, then we know there is potential for you to move into the more positive aspects of that number.

A good example is if you have a karmic energy in your chart, such as the 8-8 I have in my Spiritual Karma. I know I’m here to get into my feelings in this lifetime, learn boundaries with my empathy and emotionally connect with community.

To an extent, I do well in connecting with my emotions, but I still struggle to connect with the people around me, so I know how well I’m progressing through this 8 energy and where I can still improve.

The most important thing to remember is that we have a Soul Contract for a lifetime. We can be in such a rush to have everything sorted out in our lives that we forget this is a lifetime’s journey. It’s not a race, and when we feel in a rush it’s often the ego-mind wanting safety.

And if we look at our Soul Contract and realise we’ve gone slightly off our path, then we can just correct course, like an aeroplane that’s veered off the flight path. Once you have your Soul Contract you have the map and you have the awareness – which is what makes all the difference.

Can my Soul Contract tell me about my career or life purpose?

This is another great question, and one that most people who book a reading with me ask about.

What I’ve witnessed is that there are often two core drivers to this question. The first comes from our need to have deep meaning, fulfilment and purpose in our lives. The second comes from a place where we need safety and security – and sometimes it’s a mix of both.

We are all so deeply unique, talented and special. Yet for some of us, we end up working in careers and jobs that don’t pay well or don’t fulfil us. It’s rare that we can find something that fulfils both: our need for purpose as well as providing the security we need to survive.

Our Soul Contract doesn’t tell us what job to do; rather, it tells us who we have the potential to become – and this is the key difference.

It’s through who we are that we create the opportunities for what we do. There is no one perfect job or one overarching soul purpose for us; we are capable of doing a million different things. Yet our Soul Contract will tell us where we are naturally gifted, even though we may not fully realise it.

In each Soul Contract there is a story woven between the numbers that can show us the bigger picture of our lives. We all wish we could have a magic answer for what we’re here to do, but we can only discover that by living and embodying the potential within our Soul Contract.

For example, I have the 12-3 energy as my Soul Destiny, which is about balanced expansion, teaching and the self-worth journey. Yet I cannot begin to embody this unless I work through them first. I am here to engage in the challenging energies of these numbers, and only then can I be rewarded with the positive energies of the numbers.

Everything we want is already inside of us, not outside of us – which is why the Soul Contract is about who we are, not what we do. With my 12-3 I’m here to feel worthy, become balanced and eventually to teach and share knowledge from deep within me. But I can’t do this until I learn my worth, better my boundaries and feel worthy to come out of hiding and express myself.

So, as you can see, it’s only when we lean into our challenges that everything changes in our external reality and we begin to uncover the path that we’re here to take.

When we’re looking for our career or purpose, we first have to look at the deeper energies contained within our blueprint – which is exactly what the Soul Contract does.

Can I change or heal my Soul Contract?

I love this question because the answer is so simple.

No, you cannot change your Soul Contract. Your soul chose your life before it incarnated into the conscious personality (which is you). It chose your name, your family, your culture, the place you were born, the time you were born, and the experiences it wanted to have in this lifetime that are created from the sound of your name.

Many of us can have deeply challenging lives, and when we look at our Soul Contract and see what energies are in there that have created our reality, it’s easy to want to reject or resent our Soul Contract. When we’ve been through deeply intense and traumatic experiences, it’s easy to feel that life is happening to us, not for us.

I personally believe that the harder the life, the older and more experienced the soul. The wisest people I’ve met are often the ones with the most traumatic pasts.

You’re not here to lean away from your challenges; you’re actually here to lean into them – but this takes patience, love, courage and deep compassion. It is a brave thing to keep fighting after life has knocked us down.

And if you’re feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and distressed by what your Soul Contract has created in your life, I want you to remember to be deeply patient and loving towards yourself as you take on board these energies, learnings and lessons.

We all need a lot of love and healing in this lifetime, not to ‘fix’ us but to take off the layers that are blocking us from the truth of who we are.

This is why healing is such an important part of the Soul Contract work. While we can learn about the energies in our chart, we often need a helping hand to uncover and release all the limiting programmes, unconscious conditioning and trauma of the past that are disconnecting us, blocking our life force and causing disruption and chaos in our life.

You don’t need to heal your Soul Contract – it is perfect exactly as it is. But as the conscious personality experiencing the effects of the energies within that Soul Contract (which is you), we often do need support to work through the effects from the negative aspects of the numbers.

When we do this, we can move more easily and gracefully into the positive aspects of the numbers.

For example, my Physical Karma of 5-5 is all about learning to assert myself and speak the truth, which can feel terrifying for me to do, especially because of memories from the past – from school, from 2020, from past unhealthy relationships. Yet, when I do the healing work around releasing this past trauma and all the programming around the fear of speaking up, I find that it all just becomes a little easier.

And this is the point of life – to come into ease, grace and flow – and, in my opinion, knowing our Soul Contract is one of the best places to start.
