How to Break Free from Procrastination, Overwhelm and Indecision

How to Break Free from Procrastination, Overwhelm and Indecision

How ancestral, past life and soul-level energies shape our path

We all get stuck in energy patterns, or programming, that limit our growth and consciousness.

The tricky thing is, we often don’t really realise we’re stuck in them. Or, if we do, we struggle to know how to get free from the programming or limiting beliefs that are getting in the way of our expansion, love and joy.

I love to write about energy patterns and programming because they are something we all struggle with. While it’s easy to recognise and acknowledge how we get stuck, it’s far tricker to understand why.

The reason for this is that so much of who we are is built outside of our conscious minds - yet we try to use our conscious mind to understand these invisible foundations of who we are so we can break free, which is much harder work!

When we struggle in life, we try to use our conscious mind to find the reason, explanation or solution. But in reality, the patterns that limit us are not born from our conscious mind, they are created in a myriad of different ways.

We are all created with limitations, built in and designed to help us break free from the matrix of unconsciousness and separation.

This includes the conditioning of the world that has been in place for millennia. We are also created from our past lives and the scars of past incarnations that are still in the process of healing. We are created from other dimensions and realities. We are created from the deeply encoded belief systems inherited down the ancestral and genetic line.

And, we are created from the energies in our Soul Contract.

Understanding the unique energy behind our struggles

So, when we see that we’re stuck in self-sabotage, procrastination, fear or unworthiness or anything in-between, we think we should know how to break ourselves free of it.

But if it’s an energy pattern that comes from a different source, it often requires a different approach - one that requires a deeper dive into the true meaning of what’s playing out, and the reason why.

It’s really easy to recognise where we might be going wrong in our life, but it’s much tricker to figure out the source and how to gently free ourselves from its grip and become unstuck.

And, of course, this is a completely unique process for each of us.

We all have a myriad of different energy patterns that are connected and hooked into an individual blueprint of our challenges. This is why it’s so very important not to compare your growth with anyone else’s.

We are far more unique than we can even imagine, and so someone’s life path will be (and is designed to be) completely different from your own. How they work through their own energy patterns and programming may not work for you. This is why we can’t copy someone’s template for success or healing - it isn’t necessarily a match for our own.

Comparison is just one of the energy patterns that we can all get sucked into - which is why I feel it’s so important to highlight over and over again, not just for you reading this, but for me writing this too.

Which leads me perfectly to what I want to talk about today - the three distinct energy patterns that I see happening for myself and my clients over and over again.

My hope is that by recognising them, and creating more consciousness around why they are there, we can begin to untangle ourselves to create more joy, freedom and alignment in our lives.

It’s not laziness - it’s fear in disguise

The first energy pattern I want to talk about is procrastination.

Procrastination is a form of self-sabotage that stems from a place of fear. Too often, procrastination is explained as laziness, but it has nothing to do with this. Procrastination is actually a state of apathy and distraction that stems from a fear of the task ahead.

It might be that we don’t know where to start and we fear being confronted with our ineptitude, so we delay doing the task in order not to face our own perceived shortcomings.

It could be that we put off doing the task because we fear what will happen if we do it and what feelings might arise to the surface, such as a fear of failure, or even a fear of success.

At its core, procrastination is an avoidance energy pattern to help us avoid the uncomfortable fears that we don’t feel ready to face, or capable of acknowledging.

Part of this procrastination energy is also linked to distraction - they are like two naughty children that go hand in hand.

We distract ourselves to numb out the feelings.

This can look like trying to do too many things at once, and therefore not accomplishing any of them - like hiding in an energy of chaos to help us to avoid focusing on that one thing we need to do. If you have any of the 6 energy in your Soul Contract you may feel really familiar with this energy.

Procrastination invites a deeper emotional truth

So, while procrastination can, on the surface, look like laziness as we numb out and avoid doing the tasks that bring up deeper emotions we don’t feel capable of handling, it can also look like absolute chaos where we are swamped by so many things we never get around to doing the one thing we need to do.

When we procrastinate, we do ourselves a great disservice - this is something we are all aware of - but how can we begin to gracefully move through it and into a more courageous energy?

The trick to moving out of the energy pattern of procrastination is self-enquiry. When we notice that we’re not doing the things that we know we need to do, we are being invited to go deeper into our true feelings.

This isn’t always an easy process, but it’s a necessary one.

Only when we gently and lovingly look inwards, can we begin to understand what feeling it is that we’re trying to avoid. It could be that we fear feeling unworthy. It could be that we fear letting others down. Or perhaps we fear change and our ability to navigate through it.

Only once we allow ourselves the space to acknowledge how the task ahead of us is really making us feel, can we begin to lovingly let that fear out into the open where it can be transmuted to something far greater.

The deeper roots of overwhelm and how they show up

The second energy pattern I want to talk about is the energy of overwhelm.

This energy pattern has slightly deeper roots, linking to trauma and the nervous system, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a pattern that we are capable of changing.

This is one I’m super familiar with and so I know how deep it can really go within us - and what I’ve realised is that the key to managing overwhelm is all to do with finding perspective and balance.

Similar to procrastination, which is linked to the chaos that hides us from doing the task we need to do, overwhelm also keeps us from focusing on what really matters.

When we are in a state of overwhelm we have lost our perspective. Life is a beautiful, but delicate balance, between living fully in the present moment, whilst at the same time holding our vision for future possibilities as well as healing from the past.

While we’re told that we should be living in the present moment alone, I don’t believe it’s possible to live fully in the present moment without the past to anchor us and the future to guide us.

When we’re in a state of overwhelm, it’s due to present circumstances and situations that feel out of control and too much for us to handle. Yet, it’s often our nervous system that triggers our fight or flight response when we feel threatened or challenged by life, that brings overwhelming energy rushing to the surface.

When we’re in a state of overwhelm, we are essentially in a state of deep stress, and it’s usually a stress that has been imprinted from the past and one that is tied into a belief system that has become deeply ingrained within us.

Overwhelm repeats until we understand the roots behind the pressure

If we think about the times when we’ve been overwhelmed in our life, we can see that it’s usually the same triggers that invite the overwhelm in.

For me, my overwhelm comes from taking on too much work and not being able to recognise when I need a break.

This is a pattern that’s been happening over and over in my life and it stems from not feeling truly worthy within, and needing to work more to validate and prove my worth. This comes from a very strong 12-3 energy in my Soul Contract that seeks to continually rush and expand from a place of unworthiness.

When we’re in a state of overwhelm we will do everything possible to bring ourselves out of it - but because being overwhelmed creates such deep stress, we become blinded to what we really need in order to restore our sense of perspective, balance and inner calm.

In order to break this pattern of stress and the limiting beliefs that drive this stress, we need to get conscious of how the overwhelm is repeating in our lives. Only then can we begin to understand the deeper issue that is driving it, and begin to step away from it.

I get overwhelmed with work and I now know that my need to overwork is driven from a belief that I am not enough as I am.

The more I remember this, and remind myself of it (and, more importantly, get really conscious of this energy pattern) the more I’m able to step outside of myself and outside of my overwhelm and gain that much-needed perspective and balance.

This allows me to come back to a state of harmony and balance, knowing that the overwhelm is merely a symptom of a behaviour from an energy pattern that’s been rooted within since birth.

Unpacking the hidden beliefs behind indecision

The third energy pattern is all about indecision.

Indecision is something that plagues us all, and again, it’s something that we often judge ourselves for, not realising that our inability to make a decision also comes from a more deeply-rooted place. In the Soul Contract indecision usually stems from the 7 energy, but it can also come from the 4, which is all about learning to trust.

When we struggle to make decisions we become stuck because we can’t move forwards. Often we have a belief in right or wrong, that is encoded within us, that causes us to believe that if we make the so-called wrong decision, we will be punished or condemned.

This can stem from religious programming, especially from past lives, and moral beliefs, and goes right into the very fabric of our being - it’s a rigidness that needs gentle breaking down in order to find flow and flexibility once again, which is our true nature.

It can also stem from our past experiences when we’ve made decisions that haven’t best served us - or so we think. Ultimately, we are all existing in the perfect moment, which is now, and so everything that led us to this perfect moment is exactly as it’s meant to be.

However, if we look back on our past decisions from a place of regret or guilt, along with the fear making a wrong decision and the expectations we place on our shoulders, it becomes infinitely harder to trust that we can make better decisions for ourselves moving forwards.

The fear beneath the fear: how broken trust fuels doubt

Making decisions isn’t easy, yet we cannot go through life without making them.

For some of us, taking the risk of making a choice can feel like the scariest thing in the world, and so we will often stay in indecision, knowing that we need to make a choice, but ultimately not being able to make it for fear of the consequences.

The second part of not being able to make a decision comes from a lack of trust. This isn’t just a lack of trust that the universe will love and support us whatever we choose to do, this is a lack of trust within ourselves.

When we are stuck in indecision, it is often due to an inability to intuitively feel into the best course of action.

This can stem from a disconnection with ourselves due to many different factors, but more often than not, it’s due to the fact that our trust was broken at some point in our lives, and so making decisions from a place of trust feels alien and unfamiliar.

We’ve all had our hearts broken and have suffered the anguish of being let down and abandoned by those who we love - no human goes through life without these experiences.

Yet for some of us, the trust we gave to our caregivers, parents and those we love, was broken so deeply that we cannot establish a new ground for trust with the world around us and the people in it.

At the same time, while we cannot trust others, we inadvertently cannot trust ourselves because we cannot define what that trust is.

Until our issues around trust, abandonment and heartbreak have been lovingly healed, we may find it difficult to enter into the energy of trust from a balanced and resolute place.

Moving forwards on your path of growth

Ultimately, the more we understand ourselves, the more conscious we become of how we’re living. This process allows us to let go of what no longer serves us as well as attracting in what it aligned.

The more consciousness we bring to an issue, the more healing we can invite in, to create growth and change from the inside out.

More than anything, be gentle with yourself as you discover the hidden depths within you - we are all just doing the best we can with the tools that we have. When you recognise an energy pattern within you, you can take command of it, but allow yourself the grace to work through it at your own gentle pace.

The more love you hold for yourself, the lighter life becomes.
